PORTLAND - Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc., has announced the development of a sustainable, commercially viable complement to cotton using flax as a raw material.

After successfully transforming organic bast fibres such as hemp into yarns and fabrics with the desirable qualities of cotton, NAT said it has now engaged in a strategic shift to use flax fibre, which is used for the production of linen, as the foundation for the next phase of its proprietary Crailar technology.
