NEW YORK - US business Target Corp is among a group of retailers which have this week launched a new initiative which will publicly benchmark how well businesses are managing their chemicals risks, with a key aim being to provide purchasers and investors with a tool which will quickly compare and benchmark suppliers on chemical management. The Chemical Footprint project – established by US NGOs Clean Production Action, the Lowell Centre for Sustainable Production and Pure Strategies – claims it will offer "the first-ever common metric of its kind for publicly benchmarking corporate chemicals management and profiling leadership companies." Arguably, Greenpeace's Detox project, which has done so much to place the issue of textile chemicals management on the agenda, can claim to have been influential in the development of this new initiative.
