LONDON – Three protesters carrying a bloodied lamb replica and wearing blindfolds held demonstrations at a design competition as part of Men’s Fashion Week – highlighting the wool industry's alleged mistreatment of sheep. The protesters displayed “don’t pull the wool over your eyes” and “sheep suffer” banners to raise awareness of mulesing – the controversial surgical removal of flesh from sheep’s hindquarters to prevent fly-strike. The demonstration follows a recent investigation by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) which claimed it found that wool shearers had been mistreating and physically assaulting sheep.
