NEW YORK – Spanish textile technology business, Jeanologia, launched new technology at the US-based Kingpins show this week which can create various yarn effects on denim garments – such as hand sanding, scraping or cross-hatch – which appear to originate from the actual fabric structure. The 'light scraper' is a high resolution laser with a highly sophisticated design function, enabling the creation of detailed effects which were previously not achievable. The technology means that just one simple base fabric will be required to create the effect of many different fabrics – with obvious cost saving and, potentially, environmental benefits.

Enrique Silla, president of Jeanologia, said: "For the first time we will be able to clone on a standard denim fabric the authentic look of antique denim. Light Scraper will be a landmark in the textile industry. This is the third generation of laser technology that will achieve a fully automated, efficient, ecological and ethical production without losing the authenticity and natural look of the garments. Additionally, this technology eliminates costly stocks fabric and reduces 'the time to market' by four weeks."
