LONDON - The Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) has branded as "truly shocking" the findings of the recent report into labour compliance violations in Leicester's garment manufacturing industry where evidence was uncovered of widespread payments below the national minimum wage, an absence of employment contracts, breaches in health and safety practices and poor enforcement of regulation and labour standards. "It's clear the current regulations and systems are failing to protect workers' rights within some parts of Leicester's garments sector," a spokesperson from the ETI told Ecotextile News.
