China gets tough on inept officials

BEIJING – Chinese officials will be held accountable for life for pollution problems that happen on their watch according to one of the country's leading government officials. Zhang Yong, deputy director of China's influential National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), has told local reporters that officials who fail to prevent environmental problems - including pollution of waterways and soil contamination – will not be put forward for promotion or allowed to hold other positions.
