EU garment initiative sets up work-streams

BRUSSELS - The European Commission will stage a meeting next week (26 June) to update interested stakeholders in the preparation of its new garment flagship initiative, which appears to be gathering increasing momentum. The Commission has now proposed a number of working groups which are: improving responsible business practices, engaging with producing countries and reaching out to consumers. As we reported last week, the initiative is mainly aimed at sourcing practices in Bangladesh, and an EU resolution was recently passed which calls for mandatory CSR clauses in all bilateral trade and investment agreements signed by the EU.
