LONDON - The Ethical Trading Initiative has welcomed moves by the UK government which will compel large companies to outline what they are doing to stop slavery and trafficking in their supply chains. The rules, which will apply to businesses with a turnover of £36m or more, will start in October - and have clear implications for apparel brands and retailers given that garment manufacture and cotton picking are known to have varying degrees of slave labour in poorly regulated supply chains in South East Asia. During a current visit to Vietnam, UK Prime Minister David Cameron has also vowed to stamp out the "abhorrent trade" of human trafficking.
