LONDON - An EU-backed project has been launched which will work with apparel brands, manufacturers, recycling organisations and NGOs to reduce clothing waste. The €3.6m European Clothing Action Plan (ECAP) is based on the principles of the UK-based Sustainable Clothing Action Plan of WRAP and, among other things, aims to foster more closed loop production through smarter clothing design, reduce the amount of clothing going to landfill and encourage consumers to purchase less clothing and use it for longer. The project aims to divert more than 90,000 tonnes of clothing from landfill per year across Europe.
