MILAN – Italian textile machinery builders have stressed their commitment to reduce the environmental impact of textile manufacturing through savings in water, energy and the reduction of acoustics by releasing a new video. The film, produced by the Italian Association of Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) also flags up its ‘Green Label’ certification process which assesses key environmental performance data of its member companies’ technology.

The ongoing commitment of Italy’s textile machinery manufacturers to more sustainable technologies is highlighted in a new ACIMIT video on YouTube, “Italy’s textile machinery industry goes green.”

The new video has been produced by the Italian Association of Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) to promote awareness of the commitment of Italian companies, and highlights its ‘Green Label’ certification system which assesses key environmental criteria for its members’ textile machinery technology.

In particular, it highlights data of a recent survey conducted to quantify the environmental benefits from the adoption of certified ‘Green Label’ by Italian machine builders who have designed new technology to save on water, energy and acoustic pollution. “Based on estimates drawn from the engineering firm D’Appolonia, in 2014 the reduction in CO2 emissions generated by the use of Green Certified machinery based on the protocol of the ‘Sustainable Technologies’ project amounted to 221,181 tons of CO2,” Said ACIMIT, “This is equivalent to what is typically emitted by 38,534 automobiles travelling on average 35,000 km per year.”

Although the ‘Green Label’ initiaitive is a self-certification process for machine builder, The process is then assessed by a third-party certification body – RINA – which conducts randam inspection audits on 20 per cent of the participating companies every year.

“This video aims to highlight the contribution of the association, as well as that of its member manufacturers, to promote a textile industry that is increasingly sustainable and focused on the parsimonious use of resources and its environmental impact on production processes,” commented ACIMIT President Raffaela Carabelli.
