DHAKA – Just 56 out of 466 Bangladesh textile factories that discharge potentially hazardous wastewater into the environment were found to have effluent treatment plants in operation. This is the startling conclusion of a new report which reveals the findings of Government visits to individual textile facilities as part of an inspection programme covering the past 12 months. The news comes shortly after the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) launched a new roadmap to achieve US$50 bn in ready-made (RMG) garment exports by 2021.
