HERZOGENAURACH - Some notable results have been announced from a three-year capacity building project led by Puma and H&M which worked with 35 apparel and footwear suppliers in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, and Indonesia. SAVE, a public-private partnership co-financed by DEG (KFW), a German developmental organisation, realised savings of 40,000 tons of CO2 per year as well as significant savings on water and waste. Annual cost savings of US$4 million per year were also achieved across the participating factories, while best practice guidelines and an e-learning toolkit developed for the project will be open-sourced for use by the wider apparel industry. ASSIST, a non-profit international capacity building organisation with its headquarters in the Philippines, also led on the project's implementation.
