WASHINGTON - Human rights campaigners claim to have uncovered new evidence of child and forced labour from the autumn 2016 cotton harvest in Uzbekistan – and are now calling on the European Union to delay a treaty with Uzbekistan that would free up trade by lowering tariffs for the import of Uzbek cotton to the European Union. The vote on the Uzbek treaty takes place this week, with some MEPs claiming enough improvements have made by the Uzbek government to allow such a trade deal to be passed.
