Retail giants sign-up for NICE conference
COPENHAGEN – [13.11.09] Speakers from some of the world’s leading brands and retailers have confirmed their attendance at the Nordic Initiative Clean and Ethical’s Fashion Summit, which will be held at Copenhagen Opera House on 9 December.
Among those speakers due to attend are Laurant Claquin, senior vice president, corporate and social responsibility at the luxury retail giant, PPR Group; Ingrid Schullstrom, head of CSR at H&M; and Christian Kemp-Griffin, chief mission officer at Edun. From further afield, Majorie Yang, chairman of Hong Kong’s Esquel Group and Julie Gilhart, senior VP, Fashion Director at Barneys New York will also be speaking.
With an initial 10-year lifespan, NICE is an ambitious Nordic partnership initiative with the overall objective to lead the Nordic fashion industry towards a stronger focus on responsible, ethical, and sustainable production. It includes a number of projects and partners across the Nordic countries – the Nordic fashion industry being the focal point of the initiative - and hopes to provide industry and educational institutions with the knowledge, services and support and tools for the implementation of social and environmental initiatives.
Fashion Summit 2009 is taking place parallel to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen (COP15), with the aim of taking advantage of the COP15 as a show window for NICE and the Nordic Fashion industry.
The aim of the event is to develop a signed Code of Conduct; to develop the 10-year plan of action containing the Nordic fashion industry’s position on environmental preservation, sustainable energy, and a sustainable and ethical production.
