NORTH CAROLINA – [06.05.09] US-based Sustainable Textile Group LLC, a producer of fabric made from pre-consumer waste is to move into the former Hanesbrands production facility in Rowan County, North Carolina.
The fabric producer is part of the Sustainable Solutions Network of companies, which includes Sustainable Solutions Inc., Strateline Industries LLC and Circle LLC. These companies offer a wide range of sustainable products including non-woven fabrics made from regenerated cotton fibres for personal wipes and home furnishings, medical and automotive industries.
Local press reports suggest that the company plans to invest US$11 million in the new project over the next two years. The plant in the China Grove area of the county will produce yarns from regenerated fibres.
Speaking to the Statesville Record & Landmark newspaper, Joy Nunn, the founder and CEO of Circle LLC, said, “The common misconception is that ‘green‘ always costs more. It is our goal to produce items that are first of all better products, cost the same or less and are sustainable. Utilising ‘waste‘ as a raw material, we create high-quality products that are then sold globally.”
It’s understood that the company that the company has been promised a grant from the One North Carolina Fund to help with the set up and tax breaks have also been granted.
“With the assistance of Gov. Bev Perdue and local leaders, Sustainable Textiles Group LLC is able to re-open a closed textile facility, produce competitively priced and high-quality products, and offer job opportunities to hundreds of North Carolinians. It is a win-win-win situation," she told the Statesville Record & Landmark.
