After the horrors of two world wars, and the “recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family”1 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights2. This Declaration was conceived as a statement of objectives, and whilst certainly constituting moral obligations for members of the international community3,  it does not technically form part of binding international law.
