RITE LogoLONDON – The final line-up has been announced for this year’s RITE Group Conference which takes place in Central Hall, Westminster, London on Wednesday 10 October. Lord Peter Melchett, Policy Director at the Soil Association, broadcaster and writer Lucy Siegle, Baroness Lola Young OBE and Mike Barry, Head of Sustainable Business, Marks & Spencer are among the high profile speakers at the event.

Lord Melchett will provide details of the Soil Association’s ‘Have you Cottoned on Yet?’ campaign which claims to gather evidence which shows that organic cotton is the long-term goal for brands wanting to offer sustainable textiles. The conference will also feature Green Carpet Challenge (GCC) founder Livia Firth who, together with Lucy Siegle, will host a special session looking at ‘raising the bar’ and profile of sustainable fashion and consumption.

Breakout sessions include Closed Loop Recycling which will seek to assess whether it’s technically and economically possible for retailers/brands to embark on a program of closed loop recycling where textiles can be produced from old textiles. In Cotton Futures, Baroness Lola Young will examine the importance of sustainable cotton. And in Dyehouse Pollution: Pragmatism versus principles, RITE Group chairman Phil Patterson will put dyehouse pollution under the spotlight – a timely session given the recent call for zero discharge of hazardous chemicals in the textile supply chain by Greenpeace.

Other speakers at the conference include Pavel Misiga, Sustainable Consumption, European Commission, Mark Held, Secretary General, European Outdoor Group, Mike Schragger, The Sustainable Fashion Academy, Cyndi Rhodes, CEO Worn Again and Giusy Bettoni, from the eco-fashion hub C.L.A.S.S.
