LONDON – Sales of ethical clothing in the UK have been hindered by the recession – they fell 15 per cent to £150 million between 2010 and 2011, according to the Cooperative Group’s Ethical Consumer Markets Report 2012. Overall, however, the Group’s report suggests that ethical and sustainable markets have remained resilient during uncertain economic times and that, since the onset of the recession five years ago, the total value of ‘ethical markets’ is up from £35.5bn to £47.2bn.
