IC CompanysCOPENHAGEN – Denmark-based IC Companys has become the latest apparel retailer to join the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), taking its membership to more than 80 leading apparel and footwear brands, retailers, suppliers and NGOs working to reduce the environmental and social impacts of apparel and footwear products around the world.

IC Companys, which in its last financial year had sales of around US$680 million has joined the SAC in an effort to boost its environmental work through collaboration with similar like-minded apparel retailers.

“We work hard and focused with our corporate responsibility and see a membership of SAC as an opportunity to take our work one step further and be a part of defining the rules of the game,” said CEO Niels Mikkelsen, “We believe that cooperating to find common solutions is the way forward instead of all of us developing our own initiatives which frustrates suppliers and creates confusion with consumers.”

IC Companys says its membership of SAC is also in line with how the retailer, through its membership of the Danish Ethical Trading Initiative, the Business Social Compliance Initiative and Kemikaliegruppen, already works to find solutions and tries to exert leverage beyond what it can achieve alone.
