IKEASTOCKHOLM – Global home products giant IKEA ramped up its use of ‘preferred cottons’ to 34 per cent of its total cotton use in 2012, compared to 24 per cent in 2011. Interestingly though, the company’s definition of ‘preferred cottons’ has expanded to include cotton produced ‘in-line’ with the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), as well as farmers in the USA and Australia using ‘other sustainability standards’. Twelve months ago, IKEA expected that 100 per cent of its cotton would actually comply with BCI standards by the end of 2015. Ecotextile News reports.
