Zero DischargeLONDON – Eleven leading apparel retailers and brands have published a new draft version of the joint roadmap to the zero discharge of hazardous chemicals in the textile supply chain by 2020. Proposed changes include a new management system to implement annual action plans that in 2013 include a priority chemical list based on ‘risk’ and the development of an effluent discharge standard within the next 12 months. The group also intends to move the conversation away from ‘zero discharge’, possibly re-branding the group, saying its 2020 vision is to effect ‘systemic transformation of our industry.’ The group intends to expand to 20 signatory brand members in 2013 and to 30 signatory brand members by 2014.
