Planet Textiles logoSHANGHAI – New speakers at this year’s Planet Textiles conference on sustainability, which will be held on 22nd October in Shanghai will include executives from retailers, Marks & Spencer, the Otto Group, closed loop textile recycling project I:CO, and leading Chinese textile mill Jiangsu Lianfa. Other speakers include VF Corporation, H&M, The Sustainable Apparel Coalition, The National Resource Defense Council, Chinese NGO: Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs (IPE) and Textile Exchange. Speakers confirmed to present so far at Planet Textiles 2013 now include retail representatives Frazer Mead, Head of Innovation and Quality at Marks & Spencer and Oliver Klinck, Vice President, Ladies' Wear/Men's Wear from the multi-channel retailer Otto Group in Germany. Mead will outline the latest developments and future plans for the British retailers Plan A initiative whereas Klinck will look at the new Carbon Performance Improvement Initiative (CPI2), which is a group of nine textile brands and retailers that have developed a new goal to reduce energy use in textile and footwear factories.

These will be joined by leading Chinese textile mill Jiangsu Lianfa where its head of sustainability will give a ‘real-world’ example of environmental and cost savings for a Chinese textile mill through implementation of simple environmental-led steps.

The new additions to the one day event will join Peter Higgins, Product and Supply Chain Sustainability, VF Corporation, Lars Doeme, H&M, on behalf of the Zero Discharge to Hazardous Chemicals Group, Ma Jun, Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs, China, Linda Greer, Director, Natural Resources Defense Council, USA and Ms Yan Yan, Vice Director, China National Textile & Apparel Council (CNTAC). A representative from The Sustainable Apparel Coalition will also be present, as will one of the team from Textile Exchange.

The full scheduled will be finalised in the coming weeks.

Planet Textiles will take place on 22 October 2013 in Shanghai at the Kerry Hotel within the same venue (Shanghai New International Expo Centre) as Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics, Asia’s leading sourcing exhibition, which attracts more than 60,000 visitors.

This year, the link between Planet Textiles and Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics will be strengthened through an innovative new ‘All about sustainability’ zone. This new area of the show will feature three sections:

- Exhibitors: sustainable fabrics producers, and dye and chemical companies

- Educational Zone: sustainability testing certifiers, trade associations, NGOs and eco publications

- Display Area: recycled fabrics, products, solutions and initiatives

First launched in 2009 in Hong Kong by Ecotextile News and Messe Frankfurt, Planet Textiles is now firmly established as Asia’s most influential, high profile event on textiles and sustainability.

Previous attendees at Planet Textiles include senior executives from Nike, H&M, Wal-Mart, Levi Strauss, Puma, Greenpeace, VF Corp, North Face, Adidas, H&M, Marks & Spencer, IKEA, Li Ning, TAL Apparel, Esprit, Pacific Textiles and Warnaco to name a few.

The event will take place in English with simultaneous translations into Chinese.
