NEW DELHI - Turkey Trade Minister, Nihat Zeybekci, has said that it’s time to phase out subsidies given to Indian textile exporters because India has now reached ‘export competitiveness’. Zeybekci’s comments may well strike a chord with Turkish organic cotton producers who, at last year’s Textile Exchange Conference in Istanbul suggested that cheap imported cotton from India provided a disincentive to Turkish organic cotton producers – despite Turkey, reportedly, having some of the most arable organic cotton producing land in the world.
