GENEVA – The Better Cotton Initiative has moved to clear up misleading reports from Uzbekistan which appeared to imply that the BCI's stance on sourcing of cotton from the troubled country had softened by confirming to Ecotextile News that there are no plans to launch a BCI programme in Uzbekistan "currently on the agenda of the BCI Council." BCI was recently invited to participate as an observer in a roundtable discussion on ILO Monitoring in Uzbekistan. The roundtable was organised by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the Council of Federation of Trade Unions, the local Chamber of Commerce, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the World Bank.
