Myanmar

YANGON  Businesses investing in Myanmar's garment manufacturing industry will be encouraged to set aside a proportion their profits to invest in corporate social responsibility (CRS) projects – that was one of the messages of a recent seminar on sustainability in Asia's garment and textile industry organised by the European Union and International Labour Organisation (ILO). Myanmar Labour Minister Aye Myint used the event to tell stakeholders the government is seeking to attract "responsible" investors to its garment manufacturing industry to ensure its long-term sustainable development. He also said Myanmar is now at a "tipping point" in its transition to democracy.
