HELSINKI – The OECD is to publish the results of a seven-year research programme into the potential health and environmental hazards of 11 nanomaterials, several of which – silver nano-particles, silicon dioxide, zinc oxide and dendrimers - have applications in the textile industry. The OECD investigated the commercially viable nanomaterials across 110 different chemical tests, looking at issues such as environmental fate, toxicological and eco-toxicological effects, environmental toxicology, mammalian toxicology and material safety.
