STOCKHOLM – Cotton could be recycled and used as feedstock in the production of man-made cellulosic fibres such as viscose and Tencel – that's according to the findings of recent laboratory work where researchers successfully dissolved cotton sheets and spun them into new fibres using a unique, patented method. "All steps of the process [will require] optimisation before [being] considered industrially, but the positive results show [it is] possible to recycle cotton using this method," the scientists told Ecotextile News.
