NEW YORK – A US-business which is using genetic fingerprinting to track cotton fibres from gin to finished product has launched a new 'DNA authentication' technology specifically quantifying cotton species in order to allow brands to determine the precise make-up of their cotton blends. While focused on extra-long staple (ELS) cotton blends, the ongoing development of the technology has implications for ethical and sustainable textile sourcing practices by apparel brands.
