ONTARIO - New research into Canada's apparel industry has shown an alarming increase in garment imports and other goods at high risk of having child or forced labour in their supply chains. Garment imports from high-risk countries increased by 30 per cent from US$6bn to US$7.7bn from 2011 and 2015 while textile imports rose by 39 per cent from US$799 million to US$1.1bn in the same period. Footwear imports from countries with a high risk of child labour also increased 30 per cent during that time.
