TEXAS - Textile Exchange has announced the official release of the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) which is now available for certification. The Standard, which prohibits the controversial practice of mulesing, aims to provide a global benchmark for animal welfare and land management practices in sheep farming. Goals of the standard include recognising the best practices of farmers globally, ensuring wool comes from responsibly treated sheep and farms with a progressive approach to managing their land, and building communication and understanding between farmers, consumers and brands. Textile Exchange is currently working to approve Certification Bodies to certify to the RWS. The list of approved CBs will be updated on a regular basis online: http://responsiblewool.org/.
