SAN FRANCISCO - US apparel brand Gap has become the latest clothing business to disclose its factory supplier list. The brand, which had previously blamed competitive reasons for not disclosing its suppliers, follows in the footsteps of C&A, Marks and Spencer, and VF Corp which have also disclosed their supplier lists this year in a welcome move for transparency. H&M and Levi Strauss also list their suppliers on their websites and, given that many of the world's leading apparel brands are now disclosing their suppliers, the excuse of "competitive reasons" by those that refuse to be transparent on this issue is beginning to look increasingly hollow.
