LONDON - A new study suggests there may be considerable environmental gains to be made by using upcycled cotton materials compared with using conventional and even organic cotton. Researchers carried out a life cycle assessment (LCA) of cotton obtained from recycled garments compared with virgin cotton cultivated from traditional and organic crops, measuring environmental impact categories such as abiotic depletion, global warming, water use, acidification and eutrophication potential.
