LONDON – The International Trade Committee of the European Parliament, the powerful EU trade body, has given the green light to a textile trade deal with Uzbekistan which had been vehemently opposed by anti-slavery activists who had claimed the deal would see the EU profiting from forced labour in Uzbekistan's cotton controversial industry. The deal revises a 2011 decision by the European Parliament to put on hold Uzbekistan cotton imports over allegations of child and forced labour in the Uzbek cotton industry.
