BORÅS – A yarn-based coding system that can be used to track textiles through the supply chain has been developed by a team of researchers at the University of Borås in Sweden.

The yarns function as an ‘optical stamp’ for woven or knitted fabrics and are introduced during the weaving process. Unlike other technologies such as RFID tags or barcodes, this method is an intrinsic part of the textile production process and cannot therefore be removed lower down the supply chain.
