HONG KONG – More than 600 visitors from buying offices and apparel brands have already been through Lenzing’s new application innovation centre here in Hong Kong, where prototype knitted jacquard fabrics made with the new Tencel Luxe – a filament lyocell fibre touted as ideal for blending with silk, cashmere or wool in high-end fabrics – is said to have drawn great interest.

Located in East Kowloon and opened late last year, the new centre focuses on fabric development and is part of a wider initiative by the Austrian-based man-made cellulosic supplier to intensify its cooperation with the partners along the value chain in specific regions.

The Hong Kong facility follows on from a similar innovation centre specialising in fibre technology in Austria and a new innovation centre which is slated to open in Purwakarta, Indonesia next month that will specialise in yarn development. John Mowbray reports from Hong Kong.
