ALBANY – With major industry players announcing ‘recycled’ and ‘ocean plastic’ collections with an ever-growing frequency, the forecasting of a US research firm – which predicts a 4.1 per cent increase in the virgin polyester fibre market by 2025 – seems to completely contradict the noises coming from most fashion firms.
Does this figure represent an inevitable trait for a constantly expanding global population – which will certainly alarm those who believe polyester fibres are largely responsible for textile-derived microfibre pollution – or is this forecasting disregarding a substantial industry push towards a more circular, less polluting fashion industry?
