DUBLIN – High street fashion retailer Primark has launched a range of women’s skinny jeans made using only cotton sourced from the company’s Sustainable Cotton Programme.

The new collection, which is made up of three denim washes, will retail at £13 in the UK and €17 in Europe and has been described by the company as an “important step towards Primark’s aim for all cotton used in their products to be sustainably sourced.”

While ‘sustainable’ is a term without clearly-defined parameters in the apparel sector, Primark’s new range is said to be made from cotton produced using ‘more natural farming methods’, which it defines as having minimised the use of chemical pesticides and fertilisers, reduced water consumption, alongside delivering increased incomes to cotton farmers.

In 2018, following a successful inaugural year of retailing apparel incorporating cotton from the programme, Primark announced its intention to expand the initiative into Pakistan – with over 28,000 farmers now said to be involved in the project.
