COPENHAGEN – Forum for the Future and the Centre for Sustainable Fashion (CSF) at London College of Fashion have launched an open-source interactive toolkit which uses future scenarios to help identify risks and opportunities for the fashion industry to 2030. The idea is to use these scenarios to stimulate new ideas and test business strategies for the long-term benefit of both the industry and the planet.
Billed as a “guide to inspire” it looks at how the fashion industry could tackle environmental and social problems within the next decade at a time of uncertainty – where climate change, artificial intelligence, population growth and the global politic threaten to disrupt fashion businesses in the next decade.
The four scenarios explored in the Fashion Futures 2030 toolkit, which was produced with the help of C&A Foundation, look at every aspect of the fashion industry, from the production of raw materials, through to manufacturing and retail, to garment use and end of life.
“The world is set for turbulent times with climate change, resource shortages, population growth and other challenges set to shape the 2020s and the future of fashion,” says Dr Sally Uren, CEO of Forum for the Future. “Many business leaders are overwhelmed by this uncertainty, and by the expectations to take action." She asks: "So where do we start?”
