BURGDORF – Swiss textile solutions specialist Sanitized AG has developed a peppermint oil-based antimicrobial as it looks to satisfy demand for renewable textile finishes that retain a high degree of performance and durability.

Metals, such as silver and gold, are commonplace in industry due to their antimicrobial properties, inhibiting the growth of bacteria on garments. However, these solutions can be prone to leaching, are not always cost effective and, most importantly, are often not deemed ‘sustainable’.

As such, the Swiss innovator hopes to capitalise on a growing industry appetite for a metal-free solution with the development of ‘Mintactiv’, which it says is suitable for an array of cotton-based products: from t-shirts and outerwear, to bed linens and towels.
