POLL RESULTS: your priorities for the planet

Priorities for the planet, what are they, and what do our readers think? John Mowbray presents the results of a recent poll we held at Planet Textiles and shared through our online channels – nearly 1,000 of you took part.

For over a decade, Ecotextile News has called for greater harmonisation and consolidation of work on environmental issues in the textile supply chain. We regularly argue for greater collaboration on chemical management, the pooling of data on raw materials, the harmonisation of environmental standards, right through to knowledge sharing between brands to counterbalance the plethora of ‘initiatives’ that have emerged since Ecotextile News was launched back in 2006.

On the one hand, it’s good news there’s been a proliferation of important environmental projects – but on the other what measurable impacts do all these projects really have?

It’s a question we’ve asked regularly over the last 14 years and have come to the conclusion that our industry needs to consolidate around perhaps 5 key initiatives and projects where the technology, knowledge and expertise already exists to make big environmental improvements within the next 5 – 10 years, absolute maximum. In this article, the results of polling conducted at Planet Textiles and on our social media channels will be revealed.

Planet Textiles 2019 will take place on 22 June at Fira de Barcelona, Spain
