SAN FRANCISCO – Apparel retailer Gap Inc., has signed a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) for the Aurora Wind Project with Enel Green Power North America, representing what is said to be one of the largest offsite renewable energy contracts by a fashion brand or retailer.

Through what will be a 12-year agreement, Gap says it is well positioned to achieve reductions to both its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50 per cent from its 2015 baseline – in-line with its Science Based Targets.

What’s more, the company has set further targets in which it aspires to utilise 100 per cent renewable energy by 2030, and will later this year commit to setting a new Science Based Target addressing its Scope 3 emissions, these relating to its indirect activities.
