LEVERKUSEN – Several of Covestro’s water-based polyurethane (PU) membrane films designed to give a range of advanced functionality to sports and outdoor clothing have recently been certified to the consumer Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex in Class I.
Many leading clothing brands and retailers are said to be looking closely at water-based TPUs to replace traditional films that use solvent-based binders that can emit VOC’s (volatile organic compounds). The new range of water based TPUs is said to produce textiles that are lightweight, breathable and have a good level of water resistance.
