CHESHIRE – Product testing and verification services provider SGS has launched a new ‘Product Recalls’ digital platform that will enable retailers and manufacturers to stay up-to-date with the latest unsafe product notifications across both Europe and the United States.
In July, River Island recalled a number of garments, and asked buyers to stop wearing them immediately, after they were found to contain traces of cadmium and lead – which can be potentially damaging to human health in high volumes or over prolonged exposure periods – that exceeded legally permitted levels within the EU.
This new online tool, it’s hoped, will enable firms to stay ahead of the curve with regards to changes of legislation, mitigating cases such as the aforementioned.
