MAE SOT - Police and government officials have raided garment factories in Thailand that supply global brands Starbucks and Bauer Hockey and ordered owners to pay the legal minimum wage to migrant workers from Myanmar.

It comes after an investigation by the Thomson Reuters Foundation found at least 26 migrant workers from Myanmar were being paid much less than the daily minimum wage of 310 Thai baht (US$10.15) in the western region of Mae Sot.

One seamstress, who did not give her real name for fear of losing her job, said she earned about 80 baht (US$2.62) for a 15-hour day making barista aprons for Starbucks and children’s clothes.
