HÖCHST - Natural down in jackets, bedspreads and sleeping bags has 18 times less of an impact on climate change than polyester fill, according to a new Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

The LCA, commissioned by the International Down and Feather Bureau (IDFB), analysed the impact of both materials in five environmental areas: human health, ecosystems, resources, cumulative energy demand and climate change.

The results concluded that, on a per ton basis, down has an 85 to 97 per cent lower impact than polyester in all five impact categories.
