MELBOURNE – The Australian Fashion Council (AFC) has become the latest signatory to the United Nations’ Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action (UNFCCC) as it looks to inspire companies, communities and governments to raise their climate ambition and help limit global warming to the 1.5oC.

Designed to be aligned with the goals of the Paris Climate Change Agreement to move towards net zero carbon emissions by 2050, the voluntary initiative aims to mobilise the fashion industry to tackle its impact on climate change through a new, overarching and collaborative mechanism.

“Climate Change is the issue of our time. The global fashion industry is, and has been, a major contributor to the problem, but this means we are a key part of the solution too,” said AFC’s CEO, David Giles-Kaye. “By signing the Charter, AFC commit to working with the Australian and the global industry to make change happen.”
