TEXAS – Global fibre production has doubled in the last 20 years to reach an all-time high of 107 million tonnes in 2018 and is expected to grow to 145 million tonnes by 2030 if current trends continue, according to a new report.

The figures are revealed in the Textile Exchange’s latest Preferred Fibre and Materials Market Report (PFMR) which focuses on the industry’s supply side, analysing production volumes, availability and emerging fibre trends.

Included in this increase are fibre and materials with improved social and environmental impacts – known as 'preferred' options - for almost all fibre categories, however, the report reveals that volumes are still quite low in comparison to their conventional counterparts.
