YANGON – From next week, Myanmar’s government will begin research across major cities on the cost of labour in the garment, food and commodity sectors, as it looks to establish a new minimum wage to be introduced this May.

Every two years the country’s minimum wage is revised and enshrined in law based on changes to the cost of labour and product manufacture in key industries.

According to local reports, Myanmar’s National Level Minimum Wage Committee will push for an increase from the current sum, which equates to US$3.30, to nearer US$5.
