BERLIN - European online fashion platform Zalando has welcomed new German legislation to reduce the amount of unsold stock destroyed by brands and retailers.

With only 0.05 pe cent of returns destroyed, the company says it will be unaffected by the change to the country's Recycling Management Act (KrWG) due to take effect today.

Zalando admitted that free returns shipping was an "integral part of its business model" which was to offer customers a selection of products they could try on at home.
