BRUSSELS - A coalition of environmental groups and human rights campaigners have welcomed a new European Commission report which sets out options for improving due diligence in brands' supply chains.

Entitled Study on Due Diligence Requirements through the Supply Chain, the EC report suggests that voluntary measures are not working and that the European Union (EU) should take regulatory action to protect workers, communities and the environment.

Nine bodies - Amnesty International, Action Aid, European Coalition for Corporate Justice, Global Witness, Clean Clothes Campaign, European Centre for Constitutional and Human Rights, CIDSE (Coopération Internationale pour le Développement et la Solidarité), Anti-Slavery International and Friends of the Earth - put out a joint statement backing the study.
